Niels works as a Commercial Business Analyst at Visbeen Transport. He was influenced by his father and developed a passion for the transport world from a very young age. Recently he had the chance to drive a V8 for a day. He is happy and proud to share his experience here!
“After 26 years, it finally happened on 14th of July. I had the chance to drive in a V8 truck! The week before I drove a Volvo truck from a different destination in Sweden. Now it was time to drive the flagship from Södertalje. I have nothing against Volvo, though, because these trucks are great too. But an eight piper makes the adrenaline rush through your body. Unfortunately, the powerful sound is no longer the same as in my father’s stories about his loyal 143, but nevertheless it remains special.
The special ride started in Dinteloord, where a complete load of tomatoes had to be transported to Kent. I was there, together with our experienced driver Dirk de Heus. After just 30 minutes, the pallets were loaded into the trailer. I received many useful tips from Dirk and the trip could be continued to Hoek van Holland.
After unloading in Hoek van Holland, I drove with an empty trailer to Eindhoven to load at a well-known DAILYFRESH customer. I had never been there before and was impressed by the large building. After registration, it turned out that I was not booked until half past two. So I decided to wait outside and enjoy the sunshine. After waiting for 2,5 hours and talking to other colleagues, it was time to load again. At 4.15 pm loading was completed.
Now the time had come to bring the 520 horse power truck back on the road. After a smooth ride I arrived for the second time that day in Hoek van Holland, where I disconnected at the Killingholme boat. Hereafter, I went to DFDS in Vlaardingen for a loaded trailer. After a short quest, I found the trailer, which was – no surprise – not on the agreed spot. At Shell Buttervliet I supplied the Vabis with some fresh diesel and then disconnected at Nieuwe-Tonge. Here, around 8 pm, my day in a fantastic truck came to an end!
